I’ve wanted to get into photography for a couple of decades and here is the result of finally giving in and jumping headfirst into a hobby that I know jack shit about. What you are looking at is a rookie mistake. I loaded the film wrong and it did not advance correctly. It looked like it was, but nope. What I ended up with was what I assume to be around 36 exposures all on a single frame.
It is a pretty common mistake and an expensive one, considering the cost to purchase and develop film these days. I fucked up my first roll of film and there is a part of me that is disappointed and wants to kick myself and even maybe throw in the towel on the whole affair. But that is a very small voice at the back of my mind because, well…
I kind of love this photo.
The more I look at it, the more I see the disparate exposures that make up the whole. It reminds me of a tv dream sequence that transitions by overlapping scenes, one fading out as the other fades in. This was not the desired outcome. This was a fuck up.
Fuck ups aren’t always a bad thing though. This one taught me a few lessons.
Be more careful when loading my damn film.
Double and multiple exposures can be really cool and I should explore that in the future… sometime after I learn how to load film.
Fuck ups can still look pretty damn cool.
I am aware that I am talking about photography and not TTRPGs, but I feel like this applies across many creative endeavors. We ain’t perfect. Embrace your fuckups. It might not be as bad as you think.
Also, for the hell of it, here’s a couple photos with a different camera that did turn out:
